Xinhua News Agency, Paris, April 23 (Reporter Xu Yongchun)-the International Energy Agency released an outlook report on the 23rd, saying that the global demand for electric vehicles will continue to grow strongly in the next decade, and sales are expected to reach 17 million units in 2024, accounting for more than 1/5 of the total global car sales. The surge in demand for electric vehicles will reshape the global car industry and significantly reduce oil consumption in road transport.

The report, entitled Global Electric vehicle Outlook 2024, predicts that China's electric vehicle sales will increase to about 10 million units in 2024, accounting for about 45% of China's domestic car sales.TmntarcadecabinetIn the United States and Europe, electric vehicle sales are expected to account for about 1/9 and 1/4, respectively.

Fatih Birol, director of the International Energy Agency, said: "instead of weakening, the global electric vehicle revolution is entering a new stage of growth."

Global electric vehicle sales surged 35 per cent last year to a record nearly 14 million, according to the report. On this basis, the electric vehicle industry still achieved strong growth this year. Demand for electric cars in emerging markets such as Vietnam and Thailand is also accelerating.

According to the report, China continues to take the lead in the manufacturing and sales of electric vehicles. More than 60% of the electric cars sold in China last year were more cost-effective than equivalent traditional cars.

The report stresses that ensuring the availability of public charging facilities keeps pace with electric vehicle sales is critical to maintaining growth momentum. Compared with 2022, the number of public charging piles installed worldwide increased by 40% in 2023. However, to reach the level of electric vehicle deployment promised by governments, the charging network still needs to grow several times over the next decade.
